New Iconic and Local Favorites Land at Boston Logan

BOSTON, MA (October 31, 2023) – MarketPlace Logan, an affiliate of Boston-based New England Development and manager of the Boston Logan Concessions Program, announced that new arrivals including a second Wahlburgers, Sal’s Pizza, Boston Harbor Distillery, Gachi Sushi and Noodles and several other openings will greet passengers at Boston Logan International Airport. Boston Logan will also be the first U.S. airport to debut a world-class duty free experience of global brands infused with local flavor and flair by Dufry, soon to be Avolta, which will also pay tribute to Boston’s neighborhoods and history.

“As travelers’ needs continue to evolve, we are excited to bring even more iconic and local favorites, as well as innovative options to make the overall travel experience more efficient and enjoyable, which is something that we strive for here at Boston Logan,” said Michael DiCosola, President, MarketPlace Development. “These new arrivals will not only elevate the experience but will make a positive impression for those who make Boston Logan their first stop when visiting our city.”

Terminal E welcomes new arrivals from SSP America like American-style spirits, Boston Harbor Distillery, founded by Rhonda Kallman, a craft beverage industry thought leader and the pioneering woman in the beer industry. Travelers can sample whiskey varieties that have aged in the famous bonded barrel storage warehouse, along with small batch gin, rum, decadent liqueurs and even distilled beer from Sam Adams. The brainchild of Sal Lupoli, an East Boston native who opened his first shop in the 1990s, Sal’s Pizza will offer travelers on the go mouth-watering options including specialty pies, sandwiches, salads, and breakfast strombolis.  The popular Boston fast-casual burger favorite, Wahlburgers has opened a second Boston Logan location in the Terminal E Food Court and offers gourmet burgers, French fries, tater tots, and fun.  A second boutique iStore location delivers a dynamic selection of the latest high-quality tech products and fashionable mobile solutions.

Leading a travel experience revolution while capturing the historical neighborhoods of Boston, Dufry will provide international travelers in Terminal E with distinctive duty free shops including:

  • An 11,000-square-foot walk-through concept and mixed-use space, made to feel like a destination in itself, featuring four shopping zones inspired by two of Boston’s most iconic neighborhoods, Back Bay and Jamaica Plain.
  • The Connoisseur Collection, the first of its kind in any U.S. airport, is an intimate drinking lounge and shop with a tasting bar and discovery table, inspired by Boston’s Rowes Wharf trading port.

As visitors make their way to Terminal C, travelers can experience fresh and healthy Japanese cuisine with Gachi Sushi and Noodles, featuring Japanese infused dishes like Frushi (fruit-sushi) breakfast rolls to the best-selling Triple Delight, travelers can enjoy sushi made with the freshest ingredients at any time of the day in a comfortable sleek atmosphere while dining in at Gachi. There are also Grab ‘N Go options with pre-packaged sushi rolls and appetizers to accommodate quick service.

“We work to constantly improve and enhance the passenger experience, and we are excited to offer passengers some new options through these well-known and local favorites,” said Massport Aviation Director Ed Freni. “Every day, we welcome thousands of visitors to New England to enjoy everything the region has to offer. Concessions play an important role in a passenger’s journey.”

Philly-founded and family-owned local favorite opens sixth location

PHILADELPHIA — Oct. 5, 2023 — One of Philly’s most posted and picturesque local menus will soon be getting 25 million more views annually – with the spring 2024 opening of Sabrina’s Cafe at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) in Terminal C.

The endearing and enduring concept of elevated comfort food served in a cozy, eclectic dinette made its debut in 2001 near Philly’s famed Italian Market. Founders Raquel and Robert DeAbreu further personalized the idea by naming the restaurant after their daughter, and Sabrina’s Cafe was born.

Just over two decades later, Sabrina’s Cafe operates five successful locations – each a neighborhood favorite – including Fairmount/Art Museum, University City, South Street, Wynnewood and Collingswood. The new PHL Food & Shops location will be the sixth Sabrina’s Cafe.

“Sabrina’s Cafe is thrilled to bring our signature brunch experience to the airport, offering travelers a taste of home even when they’re on the go,” said Robert DeAbreu, co-founder. “Our airport location is excited to serve up the same delicious brunch menu that has made us a beloved destination in the city for years.”

The DeAbreus have partnered with esteemed and experienced restaurant operator, Hakan Ilhan, who also launched Bud & Marilyn’s and Good Luck Pizza Co. at PHL. Ilhan has extensive airport concessions experience in Philly and in Washington, D.C.

“We are very proud of opening Sabrina’s Cafe at Philadelphia International Airport,” said Hakan Ilhan, president of Hakan Ilhan Restaurants. “Sabrina’s Cafe has been an iconic Philadelphia establishment for many years. Besides serving delicious food, it has been a gathering place for many communities in Philadelphia.”

Sabrina’s Cafe built its brand on brunch with a twist, with offerings like Stuffed Challah French Toast, Cinnamon Roll Pancakes, Vegetarian Huevos Rancheros, Shrimp and Grits, Tofu Scramble and more. The list of super fluffy omelets is irresistible for locals–especially the Philly Hometown Omelette with ground hot sausage, button mushrooms, roasted peppers, marinated long hots, and provolone and parmesan cheeses.

Whether it’s the artful sprinkle of confectioners’ sugar or banana slices sliding down a vanilla bean syrup slope – all entrees are served ready for their close-ups.

The bounty of culinary beauty continues with Sabrina’s Cafe’s turkey and beef burger menu. Diners can “build their own” or opt for fan favorites such as the House Angus Burger on a brioche roll featuring buttermilk fried onions, American cheese, leaf lettuce, sliced tomatoes and over-easy egg. It’s topped with “Big Spence” sauce, a nod to Sabrina’s younger brother, Spencer.

There are also sandwiches, tacos, soups and made-to-order salads too numerous to mention. All are prepared in an authentic neighborhood-kitchen style with only fresh, high-quality ingredients. The colorful ingredients nearly jump off the plate.

“Everything about Sabrina’s Cafe says, ‘Come in, get comfortable; you’re going to love eating here and being here,’” said Mel Hannah, Vice President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL. “Everybody leaves Sabrina’s Cafe smiling and satisfied, and that’s a great way to start any trip.”

Philly Poured and Raised: Elixr Coffee Roasters To Open At Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA — Sept. 14, 2023 — Perhaps unexpectedly, we have the Eagles to thank for a local coffee company opening its newest location at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Elixr Coffee Roasters will debut in the connector between Terminals B and C, in winter 2024.

Evan Inatome, founder of Elixr Coffee Roasters, is the brother-in-law of former Eagle Winston Justice. Inatome came from Southern California for a family visit in 2010 and was excited by the Philly food scene. Soon after, with Winston as his partner, Inatome started a business on 15th Street in Center City. PHL will be the popular coffee shop’s fifth location.

Inatome’s global travels and personal passion for coffee, especially its power to bring communities and cultures together, inspired the creation of Elixr. The concept began as a traditional coffee shop, serving high-end, light-roast and sometimes exotic coffees curated from locations around the world.

In 2011, Elixr evolved to add an international roasting operation under its own proprietary brand, focusing on single-origin coffees, sourcing beans from dedicated farms and specific regions. The result delivers a unique flavor profile, with a richness and purity that coffee experts will identify as top of the market—and casual coffee drinkers will embrace as simply great-tasting. “Las Brumas Pacamara, El Salvador,” and “Rungeto Kii, Kenya,” are two standouts, among a growing selection of at least a dozen more.

“Having started our business in Philly, it’s particularly exciting to open our newest location at PHL, where a diverse offering is essential,” said Inatome. “We’re going to help every person enjoy their individual journey, no matter where they’re going or why.”

An excellent cup of coffee starts with superior beans, of course, but it’s further decided by the method of preparation. At Elixr, Chemex® pour-over brewing allows baristas to elevate the taste by controlling the temperature and strength of the brew. All equipment is state-of-the-art and state-of-the-craft.

In addition to hand-pours, Elixr’s menu boasts a wide range of options such as espresso, cappuccino, teas, various cold drinks, coffee milkshakes and more. There are also seasonal made-to-order specialty options like a Butterscotch Pink Peppercorn Latte and Strawberry Oat Milk Latte. A menu of pastries and other coffee complements often changes with the seasons.

The environment where the sipping occurs matters too. Elixr’s interiors are influenced by Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy emphasizing the beauty of simple forms, featuring raw and natural architectural materials. Meant to inspire peace and calm, Elixr’s vibe is the perfect respite in the hustle-bustle of one of the country’s busiest airports.

“From cappuccinos to cold brews, Elixr Coffee Roasters’ robust and brewed-to-perfection coffee menu offers PHL passengers a cup of joe for every occasion,” said Mel Hannah, Vice President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL. “We’re more than proud to present this Philly-founded business as the latest addition to PHL Food & Shops’ 170-plus lineup of shops and restaurants.”

Elixr’s airport location will join its Rittenhouse Square flagship, as well as locations in State College, Pa., and Nashville, Tenn. Elixr also supplies wholesale coffee to other restaurants and businesses throughout the U.S.

ROAM Fitness’ upscale airport gym and wellness concept first took off at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) in 2017, where pre-pandemic success led to planning a second location. If you prefer to purchase something new, there is an extensive stock of lululemon, available at airports through ROAM, and other retail brands include: Beyond Yoga , Girlfriend Collective and Rhone. Travel and wellness accessories from RAINS, S’well and KINTO are also for sale.

“Our largest facility to date will showcase an expansion in variety and total number of exercise stations, including the latest and greatest in technology integrated feedback and connected coaching platforms, that have become the vanguard of any workout experience,” said Ty Manegold, ROAM Fitness co-founder.

Free weights (Intek and PowerBlock), benches, and a cable machine are available for strength training. Dedicated space is provided for yoga, stretching, and resistance training. Departure displays inside ROAM help travelers keep an eye on flight status or gate changes.

If you’ve never thought about showering at the airport, think again. Four private, individual shower rooms are reservable upon check-in and booked in 15-minute increments, featuring towel service and complimentary Malin+Goetz bath products. Personal lockers are equipped with power to charge devices.

“We couldn’t be more excited for PHL travelers to have access to our gym facilities,” said Cynthia Sandall, ROAM Fitness co-founder. “We have plenty of cardio equipment and private shower rooms that can be reserved to ensure you make it to your gate on time.”

A first for the ROAM Fitness brand, the newly opened PHL location will feature an infrared sauna with red light therapy from Perspire Sauna Studio . The single-occupant sauna is reservable at check-in.
“The integration of our full-spectrum infrared sauna and red-light therapy sessions in the bustling Philadelphia International Airport is a testament to the ever-growing need for accessible health options, even on-the-go,” said Lee Braun, CEO and co-founder of Perspire Sauna Studio.

Discounts are offered at ROAM Fitness for active U.S. Military and students. ROAM also partners with other frequent flyer services and fitness studio collectives such as Priority Pass, ClassPass, LoungeBuddy, Dragon Pass, Zeamo, FitReserve, Gympass, Sanctifly, LoungeMe, FlexIt ASHNetwork, and Peerfit.

“We’re excited to welcome ROAM Fitness to our PHL Food & Shops merchant community,” said Vice-President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL, Mel Hannah. “For anybody stressed about missing their workout on a travel day, it’s now built-in and accessible.”
