The Plane Pull event features teams from around the city competing against each other to determine which team can pull a plane the fastest over a predetermined distance. This year’s event was held on Atlantic Aviation’s tarmac.

“The Plane Pull is always a lot of fun and has become an event that everyone looks forward to each year,” said Mel Hannah, vice president and general manager of MarketPlace PHL. “Knowing that we’re raising money to support an important local organization focused on helping families in their times of need makes everyone who participates a winner.”

The PRMH provides a home away from home for families of critically ill children receiving treatment at Philadelphia-area hospitals. The Plane Pull event was created to raise funds and increase awareness for the services provided by the Ronald McDonald House, which operates two homes in the Philadelphia area. The original Ronald McDonald house was founded in Philadelphia in 1974 and is the model for 300 houses around the world.

This year’s Plane Pull event had 36 teams participating, including those led by airport merchants Stellar News and Chickie’s & Pete’s. Representatives from Hudson News and Marshall Retail Group helped round out MarketPlace PHL’s team. Collectively, more than $170,000 was raised to support the PRMH, with Chickie’s & Pete’s team raising the highest amount, $16,958.

Every year, airport merchants also support the event through in-kind donations of food and refreshments for the participants. Merchants that provided snacks and drinks include Stellar News, Hudson News, Paradies Lagardére, LeBus Café, Good 2 Go, McDonalds, Starbucks HMS Host, Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen, Sbarro, Chickie’s & Pete’s, Bruegger’s Bagels, Dunkin Donuts and Wright Food Services.
